Compressors

Nippondenso

Porsche 964 993 Nippondenso Compressor
Griffiths stocks "new" and remanufactured Porsche 964, 993, Nippondenso brand compressors; available with remanufactured clutch or without clutch.

Driers
964 993 Receiver Dryer
The receiver drier is critical component to your a/c system. The drier is as important as your oil filter is to your engine. It consists of a steel tank, a filter, desiccant bag (drying agent) and a side mounted site glass. Driers should be replaced whenever: (a) your system has lost its refrigerant and you are unsure of its age, (b) the system is suspect to excessive moisture, (c) you are changing over to an alternate refrigerant or incompatible refrigerant oils, or (d) your compressor seized or locked up. The drier can be found typically attached to the back side of the driver's side front wheel well. Griffiths stocks OEM style Kuehl brand driers with the correct desiccant for R134 and R12 refrigerants.

The Kuehl 964 993 High Performance Serpentine Evaporator
Kuehl 964 993 Evaporator with Expansion Valve

Above is our new Kuehl 964/993 Serpentine Evaporator. This new design offers higher efficiency with the use of modern serpentine tubing bringing your 964 or 993 into the 22 century! There are numerous advantages with the Kuehl serpentine designed evaporators: a) there are only points where the tubing is brazed: the inlet and outlet, as opposed to old style tube & fin evaporators which have many braze points or connections which can leak, b) serpentine tubing has several channels or paths for the refrigerant to flow, whereas the stock version evaporator has very few, and c) the Kuehl serpentine evaporators have greater surface area which increases cooling performance. Our Kuehl evaporators come complete with a R12 - R134a compatible expansion valve attached.
Customer Comments:
Air Cooled Engines, Honolulu HI. " The design is superior to OEM with it's serpentine vanes. Fit is great, and not only did it look good but performed wonderfully!
M.C. , City of Tamarac, Florida. "I put one of your 993 evaporators in my cab in august and what a difference it made!!!!!! My shop recommended it to me before I could recommend it to them as I had used many of your components over the years in my 79SC. Thanks for keeping the products coming!"

Expansion Valves
Expansion valve - H style

The 964 C2/C4 and 993 use an "H" valve block design. Expansion valves should be replaced when either, (i) diagnostics have confirmed valve failure or leakage, or (ii) your compressor seized or locked up. Griffiths supplies new expansion valves with o-rings.

Hose Line Assemblies
Barrier Hose Assembly Line
A major improvement in the 964/993 vs. the older 911's was the change from all rubber a/c hose (nearly 40 feet in the older 911's) to aluminum tubing ... in places. However rubber a/c hose was still used in certain areas of the 964/993 where vibration and flexing are an issue, such as in the engine compartment where there is rubber a/c hose running on top and over the engine. Unfortunately this area of hose still fails in time and is a major source for refrigerant leaks.

Griffiths offer's new Kuehl brand a/c Barrier hose sets for the 964/993 engine compartment area. "Barrier" hose, which is typically OE in all new vehicles reduces the permeation leakage rate of R12 and R134a refrigerants. You should inspect your hose lines on a yearly basis, looking for cracks, signs of oil or dirt accumulation on the hose or near the hose fittings. You may notice small pin size holes that are evenly spaced in a line running the length of your hoses. These are "pressure relief" holes which are installed by most hose manufacturers. The small holes allow pressure to escape in the event that the primary inner wall of the hose should fail under extreme pressure. The designers contemplated that it would be better to avoid a sudden eruption in the outer wall that could harm the vehicle or a technician working on the car. Under normal peak operating pressures refrigerant does NOT leak through these holes.
